Bizarre canvas painting from the end of the 19th century depicting the soul of a French soldier after his death.

The painting is divided into two distinct scenes.

In the first on the left, the protagonist is near the gates of heaven, but a St. Peter wearing a nice pair of glasses and with the famous key in his hand chases him away.

In the second scene, the protagonist is near hell. An almost disconsolate demon awaits him in the eternal fire or, as seen in the background, inside a pot together with other damned souls.

The painting features a signature.

France, late 19th century.
